The waste we produce

y9areducingwaste

· Each year, our country produces about 700,000 tonnes of plastic waste or, otherwise, 68 kg of plastic per capita.

· It is estimated that about 11,500 tons of plastic waste end up in the Greek seas a year, while almost 70% of it returns back to the Greek coast.

· Waste treatment and disposal produces significant greenhouse gas emissions, including carbon dioxide and methane, which are contributing significantly to global climate change.

· As we can see waste may cause things such as climate change that do terrible things, such as destroying habitats.

· Between 1997 and 2007, packaging waste generation increased by 47.7 %.

· Reusing, recycling and reducing help a lot by decreasing the amount of waste every individual makes, please keep in mind to use the 3 R’s (reduce, reuse, recycle).
